MY EDUCATION: A PORTRAIT OF DAVID HILLIARD
Clients: San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Pace Gallery, NYC
Artist Adam Pendleton, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Pace Gallery, NYC commissioned GhM to produce an original film and installation by Pendleton titled My Education: A Portrait of David Hilliard. Filmed in 2011 in Oakland, CA, viewers ride through the present-day streets of the city, guided by founding Black Panther member David Hilliard as he talks about his experiences with the Panthers. The film was then formatted for a 6-channel synchronized projection-based installation designed by GhM and the artist. GhM oversaw installation of the work at Pendelton's first exhibition with Pace Gallery, NYC. Six projectors beamed the synchronized videos onto both sides of three 14' wide architectural screens standing in the center of Pace's largest gallery. The exhibition continues to travel to venues including Contemporary Arts Center (New Orleans), MCA Denver and MCA Cleveland.
