TATTOO-A-TRON

For Independence Seaport Museum's exhibition Skin & Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor, GhM was commissioned to design and fabricate and interactive tattoo parlour called the Tattoo-a-Tron. Visitors were invited to take a seat inside the parlour and select one of four classic sailor tattoos. After selecting a tattoo with the push of a button, the visitor would lay their arm across a table and listen to narration (along with sound fx) explaining the history and background of the tattoo as an animation showing the tattoo being drawn was projected on the visitor's arm. A second version of the Tattoo-a-Tron was commissioned by the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum.
